The Kumarakom chain of restaurants is a family run business. It saw its origin in Kottayam Kerala, where Sojan and Mercy a dynamic and enterprising husband-wife duo stepped into the hospitality business with small outdoor catering parties. The first Kumarakom Restaurant started in Chennai in the year 2001and has grown to 9 branches with outlets in Chennai, Dubai and Bangalore.

Kumarakom is better known as a tourist destination located near Kottayam with the Vembanadu Lake as its backdrop. The popular pearl spot fish or otherwise called the Karimeen found in the Vembanad Lake is brought in to Bangalore and Chennai from the backwaters of Kumarakom on a daily basis. Today Kumarakom is managed not by Sojan and Mercy alone, but their children, Sharu, Itty & Thommen along with their spouses and their nephew Abraham. All the family members are actively involved in the day to day operations of Kumarakom restaurant to ensure that the quality and taste of the food is maintained consistently across all branches.
